Woman, 65, breaks both heels in car crashOther car made an illegal U-turn; $650,000 settlementPublished: March 24, 2014 A 65-year-old single woman was involved in a car crash in which another vehicle took an illegal U-turn and struck the front of her car. She suffered a comminuted fracture of the calcaneus, or heel bone, in her right foot, as well as a less severe fracture of her left calcaneus. The plaintiff was an inpatient for one week and was thereafter transferred to a rehabilitation facility for three additional weeks. Following her rehab, she underwent physical therapy. Surgery was not deemed necessary. Today, the plaintiff requires a cane when ambulating for a long distance or time. Liability was not contested. The victim was assessed as having sustained a 44-percent lower extremity impairment and an 18-percent whole person impairment.
