Filing a lawsuit against a pharmaceutical company
We live in a heavily medicated society. It seems there are pharmaceutical drugs available for almost every condition — including depression, weight loss and wrinkly skin. Fortunately, drug companies must spend a great deal of money and time running tests and having these drugs approved by the FDA before they can be released to the public. As a result, most drugs are safe if prescribed accurately by a knowledgeable healthcare provider. However, from time to time people suffer from serious side effects that they were not properly warned about. When this is the case, individuals have the right to sue pharmaceutical companies.
Most lawsuits against pharmaceutical companies are class action suits. This means that there are already a group of people who have suffered similarly to you because of the effects of the drugs, and they have come together to collectively sue the drug company.
The benefit of a class action suit is that it helps keep costs down for individuals and it may result in a much larger award should the claim be successful. Also, showing that you were not the only person adversely affected by a particular drug can make your case stronger.
