Confessions of a Long-time Legal Blogger

I am always a bit amused when I come across articles that ponder the question “Should law firms blog?” I began this legal blog in 2008 when the notion of incorporating social media into the enterprise of running a law firm was more theory than practice. Sure, clients were doing Internet research to locate the best legal representation, but were they interested in reading my posts about issues that I thought were relevant to personal injury?

It turns out they were. As we know, people rely on the Internet for information about everything. This information quest accelerates when a person is in a crisis, for instance, dealing with injuries and insurance companies and medical bills after a car accident or an accident on a premises. However, most people do not have the time or patience to wade through dozens of articles and posts with contradictory advice and conclusions.

In my blog posts, I attempt to provide a clear, concise overview of useful topics, as well as practical steps that can help resolve problems. Instead of publicizing stories about celebrity car crashes (which might generate many hits), the better practice is to engage readers with up-to-date developments linked to some aspect of personal injury law. And, if some readers decide they want our legal representation, so much the better.

Lawyers are always doing research — about a new treatment for traumatic brain injury, or the ramifications of a court decision or the latest report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Blogging is a way to share some of this information with our clients and other readers who might visit the Feinberg and Alban site.
