SUV Rollover Accident Causes Critical Injuries

A recent multicar pileup in Jamaica Plain ended when six residents, including four teenagers, were rushed to local hospitals with various injuries. At least two of the victims were in critical condition.

Authorities state that a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) full of teenagers crossed the center line at around 2:00 p.m. on September 3, 2013. The SUV rolled over after colliding head-on with a pickup truck. The accident shut down the Arborway for several hours. Boston EMS transported all six people involved to local hospitals with various injuries.

The modern-day equivalent to seat belts and air bags may be the SUV. The Ford Explorer is the most popular SUV in the world. However, the Ford Explorer is also 16 times more likely to kill vehicle occupants in a collision. Experts state that other SUVs are just as dangerous. While widening the wheel base and lowering the vehicle’s center of gravity would greatly reduce rollover accidents, such modifications would be expensive. Given the auto industry’s safety record when significant costs are involved, these modifications may never take place.
